A Dieting Plan Should Provide You with Realistic, Healthy, and Permanent Results

dieting planMany people don’t like to admit when they are working on a dieting plan. Many people prefer to keep their dieting a secret. This is due to the large number of unhealthy fad diets out there. More often than not, people fail, feel sad, lose commitment, and give up. The good news is, though, that there really are some good diets to choose from that will help people achieve their goals!

You’ve probably heard of all the fads before: cabbage soup diets, slimfast, liquid diets, and so forth. All of these have one thing in common: they are unhealthy. Sure, such a dieting plan can be used as a short cut, but not for long-term goals. For example, you are going to the prom or the beach in a couple of weeks and want to slim down a bit before then. In such a case, a fad diet might come in handy, but you will gain the weight that you lose right back after you’re finished.

Instant weight loss isn’t the right answer. Everybody wants to lose weight in no time at all because we’re so used to everything else in our lives being instant---communication, ATM machines, taking digital photos, etc. Still, as advanced as our civilization is, there is still no dieting plan that will work fast AND provide permanent results. There are plenty of ads out there that do promise to help you lose ten pounds a week. You may even find such ads very appealing and tempting. Unfortunately, you will most likely be disappointed.

You should also be cautious about these fads, as they can be dangerous. Also, never take any pills or supplements that aren’t approved by the FDA. You don’t want to experience any bad side effects from something that is not even scientifically proven to work. Unfortunately, gastric bypass surgery isn’t always a safe alternative to a dieting plan, either.

Never consider anything that you can’t reverse. If you’re 30 pounds over your goal weight, you really shouldn’t get any kind of surgery. Surgical procedures are only intended for individuals who are obese. They also must receive permission from doctors.

So, what are the healthy alternatives?

The basic guideline for all diet plans is: eat less and work out more. No matter how appealing an ad may be, this is still the basic premise behind all weight loss programs. A good, healthy dieting plan will provide you with advice on the healthy foods you should be eating and the foods you should be avoiding. It will also offer you tips for exercising and bodybuilding. When you eat less, keep in mind that you don’t have to give up on your favorite foods altogether---you just need to eat smaller portion sizes. You can eat what you like, but you must do so moderately.

Whatever you do, don’t forget the main reason behind your dieting: to lose weight and to keep it off forever. Never take shortcuts unless you really want to slim down by a certain date. Always look for a dieting plan that can help you keep the weight off permanently.

No real diet is going to bring you your desired results overnight, so you must be patient and consistent toward your goals. You need to give up on your bad habits and adhere to a new, healthier lifestyle plan. Stay away from dieting fads that promise unrealistic results.
